Newsflash

Just a quick heads-up to all those people who voted for Mike Huckabee in Iowa just because he's a minister:

AMERICA IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION.

Yes, many people who live here are Christians (in name, anyhow). But there is a big step from having lots of Christians to being a Christian nation. Church....State....SEPARATE.

I've actually heard some argue that if the majority of people in the country are Christians, then they should have the right to codify their religious beliefs into law. This is so ridiculously counter to the ideals this country was founded on, and the reasons why people came here in the first place, it makes me sick.

  1. Indeed. And the people who go around saying that America was founded by Christians obviously don't realize that Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin (for example) were Deists, who don't believe that Jesus was the son of God or divine in any way. That means Jesus is a more important figure in ISLAM than in Deism.

Thomas Jefferson literally went through the New Testament and crossed out any references to miracles or rising from the dead, and then he PUBLISHED it as the definitive version. Don't believe me? Read the book "What Jesus Meant" by Catholic scholar and historian Garry Wills. It's in there.

Besides, the Christian guys at the signing of the Declaration of Independence still voted to keep slavery. What kind of example is that?
